Seminar: Truth for Giulio Regeni, St. John’s College, Divinity School (organised by the Amnesty International Cambridge City Group and Cambridge UCU)

Cambridge student Giulio Regeni disappeared 3 years ago in Egypt, and his mutilated body, bearing signs of torture, was found on February 3, 2016, in Cairo, Egypt. Three years on, his family and supporters are still awaiting answers from Egyptian authorities. In this seminar, organised by Amnesty International’s Cambridge City Group and Cambridge University UCU, we will hear from the following speakers:

  • Taher Mokhtar, a former Egyptian political prisoner now living in Paris and former member of the
Egyptian Doctors’ Union where he was involved in campaigning against medical neglect and abuse in
    Egyptian prisons.
  • Jo McNeill, President of Liverpool University UCU, active in the Truth for Giulio campaign who
motivated their campaign over Liverpool University’s proposed partnership with Egypt’s Ministry of
Higher Education which led to the University rejecting plans to open a branch campus in Egypt.
